Introduction

Jawaharlal Nehru University is a premiere academic and research hub of India. It is also known for its vibrant culture of student activism. It is one of the few campuses in India and world, where student activism has immensely impacted the academic development of any university. This culture of activism is preserved and sanctified by a democratic space that allows varied voices of assertion. The Election Committee (EC) is a synoptic illustration of this vibrant culture of JNU

JNUSU EC has played an instrumental role in the making of democratic space in JNU since its inception. The entire process of election is managed and conducted by students’ body constituted in the form of EC.  Under the process of managing and conducting elections, the EC is responsible for undertaking varied tasks including the acceptance of nominations of the candidates; scrutiny of the nomination papers; preparation of final list of candidates; conducting the General Body Meetings (GBMs) in various Schools, the University GBM, the Presidential debate; polling and counting of votes and the declaration of the results. These features make the JNUSU EC a unique institution in itself.

This institution has been conducting elections since the commencement of Students’ Union in JNU. Now after a gap of 4 years, the JNUSU EC is back in action to conduct yet another election.
